Summary:
In this blog post I will tell you how to make a stroller garland using simple steps, easy tools, and a bit of creativity. I’ll also share my good and bad experiences while making one, and answer some common questions.
Introduction:
A stroller garland is a fun and colorful accessory you can attach to your baby’s stroller. It keeps your little one entertained while you go for a walk. Moms love it because it’s safe, cute, and keeps babies busy. And babies love it because the beads and rings are fun to touch and play with.
You might have heard about different stroller styles like bobby garland strollers, or maybe you’re looking for a stroller for everyday use or a stroller for all ages. No matter which stroller you have, a Teether bead chain is a perfect add-on that you can make yourself.
Step-by-Step Guide to Make a Stroller Garland
Step 1: Gather All the Supplies
You will need:
- 2 x Stroller Clips
- 1 x 60” Regular Cord
- 6 x 16mm Beech Hexagon Beads
- 3 x 30mm Beech Round Beads
- 16 x 19mm Round Silicone Beads
- 4 x Rings (Beech rings or Silicone donuts)
- Lighter
- Crafting Needle
- Scissors
The beads came in cute colors! I first tried using thinner cord and it broke after a few pulls. So use a strong one.
Step 3: Fold and Attach to Stroller Clip
Fold the cord in half, but leave one end about 8 inches longer than the other. Now loop it through the first stroller clip and pull it tight.
Note: These clips are just like the ones on bobby garland stroll r models. Very strong!
Step 4: Make a Knot and Hide It
Tie a knot about ¼ inch from the clip. Thread one 30mm beech bead over both cords to hide the knot.
It looked super neat once the knot was hidden under the bead.
Step 5: Add the First Set of Beads
Thread beads in this order:
- 2 x 19mm silicone beads
- 1 x beech hexagon bead
- Repeat this 3 times
You will have 12 beads on your garland.
I messed up the order once and had to pull the beads off. Always double-check your pattern!
Step 6: Add the Rings and Center Bead
Now, slide two rings onto the cord. Then add another 30mm round beech bead.
Note: If you're using bigger rings like on the sollie stroller garland, check if they can fit over the big bead.
Good Tip: This is the most fun part! The rings make a rattling sound that babies love.
Step 7: Add Second Half of Beads
Continue with:
- 2 x 19mm silicone
- 1 x hexagon
- 2 x 19mm silicone
- 1 x hexagon
- 2 x 19mm silicone
- 1 x hexagon
- 1 x 19mm silicone
This finishes your bead pattern.
Step 8: Add Final Rings and Finish Ends
Add the last two rings and get ready to attach the second clip.
Remove your crafting needle and separate both cords.
On the longer strand, add 1 x 19mm silicone bead and the final 30mm round beech bead.
I once pulled too hard here and stretched the cord. Be gentle!
Step 9: Attach Second Stroller Clip
Make a loop with the long end of the cord and slip the second stroller clip through.
Now pull the end back through the beads until the clip sits snugly against the last beech bead.
Good Tip: It feels like threading a needle backward, but it works well.
Step 10: Tie, Hide, and Seal the Knot
Tie a double or triple knot between the last few beads. Burn the knot a little to melt it together.
Then, use your needle to pull the loose end back through one bead to hide the knot inside. I skipped the "hide the knot" step once and it didn’t look clean. Always hide it!
Step 11: Trim and Finish
Trim both ends of the cord close to the bead. Use the lighter again to slightly melt and seal the ends so they don’t poke out.
And just like that — your DIY stroller garland is ready!
Important Safety Note
This garland is meant for strollers only. Don’t attach it to cribs, playpens, or car seats. And never leave a baby unattended with it. Always check for wear and tear.
